For those who love golfing holidays, Poitou-Charentes is the ideal place to play! The joy about playing golf in the Poitou-Charentes is that whatever time of year you play you never experience problems with crowded courses. Within an hour's drive from our self-catering properties, you can find yourselves on one of six magnificent courses and the welcome you receive is friendly and helpful.
More and more people are discovering the benefits of playing in this region. Many who used to go to Spain or Portugal for their golf breaks are now preferring the easy availability, the friendly welcome and the much more reasonable green fees in Poitou-Charentes (around 40€ for 18 holes in summer and around 30€ in winter). The other great advantage is that you can drive here in six hours from the Channel Ports so you have no need to hire a car. If you prefer to fly, there are cheap flights from the UK to Poitiers, La Rochelle, Nantes, Bordeaux, Limoges and Angouleme.
Poitou Charentes is an area that appeals to all the family. There is lots to do - so if a partner isn't into playing golf, they won't be bored. There are many Chateaux with most open to the public, Romanesque Churches, superb restaurants, leisure parks such as Futuroscope, Valley of the Monkeys, and the Aquarium at La Rochelle. In addition there are water sports areas, fishing, canoeing and the whole Atlantic coast to explore. The Marais Poitevin (Green Venice) is a unique system of canals providing miles of waterways to explore and in addition there are the Vienne, Charente and Boutonne Valleys.
Most of the courses have their own restaurants but the area abounds in restaurants offering a variety of appetizing meals. Seafood is high on the list in this area but it is also worth sampling the local goats cheese, melons and snails. You can eat simply at one of the Ferme Auberge restaurants that serve produce from the farm or indulge yourself at one of the Chateau restaurants. For those who like to buy their wine direct from the vineyard you have the choice of wines from the Loire or Bordeaux not forgetting the increasingly popular vins de pays from the Charente.
A golf break can be the length that suits you - from a couple of days to a couple of weeks. There are enough choices to keep you busy if you like a change of scenery, but for those who like to really get to know a course, you will find enough challenges to keep you wanting to go back.
