If you like to plan an action packed holiday there is plenty on offer in the Poitou-Charentes. Within an easy drive there are facilities for horse riding, tennis and canoeing and the countryside in this region is ideal for cycling; you can enjoy mile after mile of beautiful, gently undulating lanes without any worry about traffic. There are five golf courses under an hour away; for a keen golfer the quality of the courses coupled with the relaxed and friendly welcome you receive, make them a welcome change from the crowded fairways in other countries. Most of the courses will hire sets of clubs if you are unable to bring your own.

For many, however, the perfect holiday centres around the swimming pool with the occasional gentle stroll through the unspoilt countryside. Each day of the week you can find a typically French market selling local produce; the biggest of which is in Lezay.

This a perfect area in which to unwind and for those who enjoy good food there are many restaurants and gastronomic delights to be sampled.

CLIMATE

Thanks to its local microclimate the Poitou-Charentes enjoys over 2,250 sunshine hours per year and is the second only to the Côte d’Azur (without the mosquitoes or Le Mistral!) Summers are long and hot (but not unbearably so), winter is mild although frosty periods are not unknown.

FOOD

The area is renown for its Foie Gras, the wonderful array of sea food, duck, goats cheese and truffles. There is a range of restaurants to suit every taste and budget; from the friendly local bar/restaurants through to the exquisite cuisine and surroundings of Le Cheval Blanc at Luxé. There are plenty of children friendly restaurants here, and english alternatives are usually available for the less adventuress youngster.

For lovers of wine, we are ideally situated mid way between the Loire Valley and the vineyards of Bordeaux and we have personal contacts with several vineyards. For those who have never experienced it, there is nothing like the unique experience of tasting and buying your wine direct from the Chateau.
